Scandal at Piper High

At a public high school in Kansas City, Kansas, 28 out of 118 high school sophomores were cought plagiarising a project after there teacher specifically told them that they would receive a zero for plagiarism. That zero would make many of those students fail that class. Needless to say many of the students, parents, and even facility were furious with the teacher, Mrs. Peltons, decision. The parents requested a school board meeting where the decision on failing the students or not could be made. After much debate and numerous speeches by teacher and parents, the school board decided to rule in favor of the students and parents, and soon after that Mrs. Pelton and many other facility member resigned. You can check out the story by clicking http://www.nytimes.com/2002/02/14/us/school-cheating-scandal-tests-a-town-s-values.html?pagewanted=1

In a case like this where the students were aware of what would happen if they decided to plagiarise on an important project like this I think that they should have received a zero. They should not have been given a grade they didn't work for and make the other students who did work suffer for it. I also think that the school board should have stood behind one of there teachers, and had consequences for plagiarism.
